⁡
The landscapes we traverse shape our lives. This happens partly through the memories we gather in these places, but also through the air, water, soil, plants, and animals we encounter, which become part of us in countless ways. The longer we stay in a place, the more intense this entanglement becomes. Yet even a brief visit can imprint a place in our minds that stays with us forever. Here, we wish to share such places, and also to invite you to recall yours.
⁡
During your visit, you might also be reminded about a river, lake, mountain, forest, or field that has meaning to you. We hope that memory can lead somewhere beautiful and unexpected.

STATEMENT (FOR INSIDE GALLERY)
⁡
Most of us don’t often think about the influence of bodies of water on our lives. I didn’t either. But when I thought back to moments in my past, to times when some big shift occurred, there it was. Water. A river. A canal. The sea. Water was almost always part of those important memories.
⁡
The woodblock prints and short texts presented here are dedicated to bodies of water in my hometown in California, in Japan where I first studied and learned about nature, and in Korea where I currently live.
⁡
If I can grow into a human being who knows how to flow like a river. To ebb like the ocean. To storm like the rains. To float around peacefully like a puffy cloud. Maybe that is something like living fully.

STATEMENT (FOR INSIDE GALLERY)
⁡
Lately I have been witnessing the rise of a movement that raises awareness about watershed ecologies. It highlights the need to relate to land at this scale in order to care for ecosystems and to allow them to care for us. As I began to see the world more in this way, I could also feel the powerful embrace of the entire watershed I am living in, that of the Seine river in France. It is like being held in a cradle of life flowing from the mountains downwards to the ocean.
⁡
In this shared exhibition, I wish to pay homage to these river cradles that made my life possible to flourish, from Japan where I spent my early childhood to France, Turkiye and the USA. The maps of each river’s watershed are painted on silk using clay and plant dyes, together they make a kind of forest, with each river portrayed as a life-giving tree.
