Gion Piano Trio
Gion Piano Trio presents a live performance in Gion, Kyoto.
It is a piano trio by Pianist and Composer Yoshiko Yano.
Their music is inspired by the atmosphere and landscapes of Kyoto,
featuring original compositions performed by a piano trio.
Enjoy an intimate evening of jazz in early spring,
in the historic district of Gion.

プロフィール / Profiles
矢野嘉子 – ピアノ / Yoshiko Yano – Piano
東京都出身。ヤマハでクラシックピアノと作曲法を学び、武蔵野音楽学院では高瀬アキ氏に師事。六本木バードランドでプロデビューし、1992年にCD Someone to Watch Over Me をリリース。
d2004年には自己のビッグバンドでヤマハジャズフェスティバルにてオリジナル曲を発表。ピアノアレンジ著書 Jazz Piano Beatles（シンコーミュージック社）は25年以上のロングセラー。京都・東京で演奏活動を行い、サックスは山中良之氏、山口真文氏に師事。
Born in Tokyo, Yoshiko Yano is a jazz pianist and composer. She studied classical piano at Yamaha Music School and trained under Aki Takase at Musashino Music Academy. She made her professional debut at Tokyo’s “Roppongi Birdland” and released her CD Someone to Watch Over Me in 1992.
In 2004, she presented original compositions with her big band at the Yamaha Jazz Festival. Her piano arrangement book, Jazz Piano Beatles (Shinko Music), has been a long-selling title for over 25 years. Yoshiko performs regularly in Kyoto and Tokyo and has also studied saxophone under Yoshiyuki Yamanaka and Mabumi Yamaguchi.
嶌田憲二 – ベース / Kenji Shimada – Bass
滋賀県出身。アン・ミュージックスクール卒業後、1993年に奨学金を得てボストン・バークリー音楽院へ。1996年にはバークリー音楽院よりJohn Neves Memorial Scholarshipを受賞。1997年卒業後、東京で活動。
Wycliffe Gordon (tb)、Bobby Shew (tp)、加藤登紀子(vo)、藤田恵美(vo)などと共演。2022年に丹波篠山市へ移住し全国各地で演奏。自己のバンド GYPS、Mr. Jazz Quartet、Blue Nile でも活動中。
Kenji Shimada, from Shiga Prefecture, graduated from Anne Music School and studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston on scholarship, receiving the John Neves Memorial Scholarship in 1996. After graduating in 1997, he returned to Japan and became active in Tokyo’s jazz scene.
He has performed with Wycliffe Gordon, Bobby Shew, Tokiko Kato, and Emi Fujita. Since moving to Tamba Sasayama in 2022, he continues to perform across Japan and leads his own bands, including GYPS, Mr. Jazz Quartet, and Blue Nile.
斎藤洋平 – ドラム / Yohei Saito – Drums
島根県出身。中学高校より吹奏楽部で打楽器を経験。京都アンミュージックスクールで池長一美氏、坂東等氏に師事。ロック・ラテンバンドで活動後、同志社サードハードオーケストラに参加し、山野ビッグバンドジャズコンテストでスイングジャーナル賞受賞。2010年にはニューオリンズフレンチクォーターフェスティバルに出演。
現在は MYMトリオ、京都コンポーザーズジャズオーケストラ、百万遍ブラザース、Tortoise Shell、Entropies などで活動中。
Born in Shimane Prefecture, Yohei Saito started percussion in school wind ensembles and studied drums at Kyoto Anne Music School under Kazumi Ikenaga and Hitoshi Bando. He has played in rock and Latin bands and joined the Doshisha Third Hard Orchestra, receiving the Swing Journal Award at the Yamano Big Band Jazz Contest.
In 2010, he performed at the New Orleans French Quarter Festival. He is currently active with the MYM Trio, Kyoto Composers Jazz Orchestra, Hyakumanben Brothers, and bands such as Tortoise Shell and Entropies.
