The Kyoto Center for Community Collaboration and the KYOTOGRAPHIE International Photo Festival collaborate for the exhibition “Machiya Vision”.
This exhibition shares a vision for the future of Kyoto’s traditional Machiya townhouses. The exhibition takes form in an installation which features interview with people involved with Machiya, they are residents, craftsmen, architects, researchers, entrepreneurs, and supporters; videos capture daily life in Machiya; and photographs show the details of Machiya.
The many colors of “Machiya Vision,” reverberating with the voices of people who live, work, and support Machiya, while enjoying adding new things to a culture cultivated over many centuries, suggest a future for Machiya that incorporates great variety and diversity.
We hope that visitors to this exhibition will appreciate the importance of a Machiya culture, which is at risk of being lost, and that they will be entranced by the creative and stimulating charm of Machiya.
