About this project

- 'TOKI NO MATSURI (Ritual for Time)' is a cross-border project between music and art with the equal collaboration of a composer, Ichiro HIRANO, and an artist, Takeshi MAEDA. It is a virtual ritual with keywords of 'Shitsurae (Setting)' and 'Okonai (Performance)', which leads us to another world of art. Through this one and only experience, our project is aiming to remember, celebrate and revive a sympathetic interaction/resonance with our irreplaceable but vanishing climate that is tinged with the four seasons which have been divided into 24 and further 72 small sections.

- This year, when the world has been heavily affected by the epidemic of COVID-19, festivals in various parts of our archipelago have been cancelled or reduced in succession. There is no exception, even for the festivals which intend to disperse the plague. In such an unprecedented situation, people want to pray for the land and to calm disaster more seriously than ever. Gathering in a field, which means to be present in the field, is banned. However, sharing time, meaning, to have common time together, is possible thanks to the current development of the network. With questions and wishes derived from this emergency of our time, we will discretely present and send an ad hoc ritual, 'Dedication and Praying for Time 2020' as a live performance.

- Time: from noon to night of the Autumnal Equinox Day. Venue: Mitoya, an old straw-thatched folk house surrounded by a deep forest in Miyama, Tamba, known as 'Woodland Kyoto'. It is a solo performance by a singer, Masumi YOSHIKAWA. It is a ritual of 'Setting and Performance' rotating around spring, summer, autumn and winter without an audience. You can rivet your eyes on the delicate signs of the art work, '72 Climates'. You can listen to the universe in 'The Seasons Tetralogy' coming through the body of the singer. It will be an experience as if you are peeping into a secret ritual in a mountainous village dedicated to an unknown being. Please let your body flow in the flux of time, extend your imagination to our past and future, and let your soul fly free.
