BRDG "A Correspondence Book" / shitatame "Exercises de Style"
A double bill of two short pieces performed in Wakabacho Wharf, Yokohama in February 2019 by BRDG and shitatame, two Kyoto-based theater units that began in 2011, both founded by creators from the same generation, will be revived at their home-ground, Kyoto UrBANGUILD. Since its formation, BRDG has conducted interviews with residents of Kyoto who are immigrants from around the world. A Correspondence Book reassembles these interviews to create a spanning book of correspondence between people amidst tangles of “Errors”. In Exercises de Style, shitatame follows the manner of a book with the same title by Raymond Queneau to slice the memory of daily life and play with the grammar in order to bring the world into clearer focus. It is the current location of shitatame as well as the origin.
It is a gemstone double bill by two units drawn by common motives “Voice”, “Words”and “Translation” applying different approaches and styles. Don’t miss out.

BRDG
A Kyoto-based group founded in 2011 by actor/director Keiko Yamaguchi and art coordinator Kano Kawanabe. Since 2012, Yamaguchi has conducted interviews with immigrants living in Kyoto and created theater based on that fieldwork.
shitatame: Director Wada Nagara's Kyoto-based theater unit. Creates theater that uses language and the body to provide a close-up of the countless details that escape our field of vision in our daily lives, as if stringing together a series of failures to fully grasp something.
