This year the International Council of Museums (ICOM) is held in Kyoto September 1 – 7, marking the first time that this event will have been held in Japan. To commemorate this occasion, the Cultural Properties Protection Division of Kyoto City has coordinated the exhibition “Kyoto City designated Cultural Properties.” The city of Kyoto possesses many cultural properties. Every year cultural properties understood to be of particular importance for understanding Kyoto’s history and culture are designated and registered by Kyoto City. In addition to recently designated and registered works of art and craft, the present exhibition introduces the addition of works classified as “folk cultural properties” (minzoku bunkazai).
