“Spirited face of wooden puppet” photo exhibition of Shigeo Nishida School is held at Artisan Japanesque From Tue., Nov 7 to Sun., Nov 19 2017.
The head used in the Awa Ningyo-joruri (puppet theatre) which is an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties was made by the first Tengu Hisa, Ningyo Tadashi and etc, and has been still used in the puppet theatre. It also is bigger than Bunraku's neck. We try to express the breath of the craftsmen through about 70 pictures of the Awa Wooden puppet which their spirit lives.

Shigeo Nishida
Member of the Japan Professional Photographers Society (JPS) Come to the forefront by serialization an article “Shikoku Oukan-ki” in Asahi Shimbun with Mr. Akira Hayasaka for two and a half years. In 1993, he won the Tokushima Prefectural Publishing Culture Award in his book "Awa no Nouson Butai”. In 2013, his wide range of photography activities were awarded the Tokushima Arts and Culture Prize.
