This production is the result of a two-year project to create a new theatre and dance repertory work with Kinoshita-Kabuki, which is known for giving contemporary updates to Kabuki classics. Applying its typically detailed interpretation of the original’s dense rhetoric and highlighting the people in the shadows of a sensational double suicide, Chikamatsu Monzaemon’s play is reborn as a new musical.
